Ord Minnett Recent Ownership Restructure

IOOF's Divestment from Ord Minnett

On 27 June 2019, an ASX announcement detailed IOOF’s planned divestment of its 70 per cent shareholding in Ord Minnett to a consortium of Australian private investors. The consortium acquired J.P. Morgan’s 30 per cent stake, enabling it to take full ownership of Ord Minnett.

The consortium was led by Karl Morris, Ord Minnett CEO, who was committed to achieving the best outcome for clients, staff and Ord Minnett. The buyout was concluded in September 2019 securing our future as one of Australia’s largest independent private wealth firms. Our competitive advantage is enhanced by the domestic investors with parties aligned to our business values and future growth. Our relationship with J.P. Morgan remains strong and is mutually beneficial with continued access to its research and corporate deal flow.

Ord Minnett acquires E.L. & C. Baillieu

On 5 November 2020, Ord Minnett announced they entered into an agreement to acquire 100% of E.L. & C. Baillieu.

The acquisition of E.L. & C. Baillieu, with nine locations around Australia including Melbourne as its head office, was a welcomed strategic move, further strengthening Ord Minnett as one of Australia’s highly respected and largest independent private wealth firms.

The combination of E.L. & C. Baillieu’s brand heritage and history, private stockbroking business, its adviser network, its client-base and operational synergies enhances Ord Minnett as a respected Australian wealth brand. This new amalgamation serves to benefit Australian investors and clients for many more generations to come.

As of 31 January 2021, including E.L. & C. Baillieu’s figures, Ord Minnett manages over $59 billion in Funds under Advice and $13 billion in Funds under Management.

Hon.Warwick Smith Chairman Ord Minnett Ords

The Hon. Warwick Smith AO - Chairman

Warwick Smith is the Chairman of Ord Minnett Investments Limited. Warwick also holds the positions of Chairman Advisory Board - Australian Capital Equity; Director of Seven Group Holdings; Chairman of AIM Funds; Director of Estia Health Ltd and he is the Chairman of the Council of the National Museum of Australia.

Warwick has served as Chairman of the Australia-China Council for over eight years and was the inaugural Chair of the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations. He is the Chairman, Global Engagement Committee of the Business Council of Australia.

Formerly, he was a Director of Coates Hire and Chairman of E*TRADE. For more than a decade, he held numerous senior executive and board positions at ANZ Banking Group in the Asia-Pacific region and was a member of the Institutional Bank Executive. Prior to that, he was an Executive Director with Macquarie Bank.

Warwick was an Australian Federal Government Minister with a parliamentary career spanning 15 years. He was also Australia's first Telecommunications Ombudsman and has received a Centenary Medal and twice been awarded an Order of Australia.

Karl Morris

Karl Morris AO - Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director

Karl Morris is the Chief Executive and Managing Director of Ord Minnett Ltd, with a career spanning over 30 years in financial services and wealth management. He is a Commerce graduate of Griffith University and holds diplomas from the Stockbrokers and Financial Advisers Association of Australia, FINSIA and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He was awarded an officer of the Order of Australia (AO) on Australia Day 2019, for distinguished service to the financial and stockbroking sectors, and to the community through a range of organisations.

Karl is Chairman of the Brisbane Broncos Ltd, Chair of Bravehearts Foundation Fund, Chair of the Mary MacKillop Brisbane Catholic School Access Fund and Chair of the American Chamber of Commerce in Australia (AmCham) Council of Governors in Queensland. His other Board memberships include Australian Catholic University, J.P. Morgan Australia Advisory Council and National Vice Patron of Bravehearts. He is a Master Member (and former Chair 2012-2018) of the Stockbrokers and Financial Advisers Association of Australia, and former Chairman of QSuper (2013-2019). He also sits on the Investment Committees of the Catholic Archdioceses of Brisbane and Sydney.
